The White House spokesman Karolin Livitt explained that the drones noticed over New Jersey and the eastern coast in December were allowed by the FAA for “research and other goals”. Livitt emphasized that many of the drones were launched by amateurs and private individuals, adding: “This is not an enemy.”
The first messages about drones appeared in the northern part of New Jersey before thanksgiving, and in December the number of observations increased over houses, military facilities and critical infrastructure objects. The FBI received more than 5,000 messages, but only 100 of them demanded a “further investigation”. Federal agencies, including the FBI and the country’s Ministry of Internal Security, assured the public that the situation was “harmless.”
Despite the concern of legislators who demanded more transparency and the introduction of a state of emergency in New Jersey, experts said that “there are no threats of national security.”
