In the United States, the California startup K2 Space, which specializes in the development of powerful and “inexpensive” geostationary satellites, received $ 110 million under a series of financing.
According to the Spacenews portal, the total volume of attracted capital amounted to $ 180 million. K2 Space plans to speed up the production of its satellite “MEGA buses”, which can be built at a price of less than $ 15 million in less than three months.
A decrease in the cost of launches will allow to proceed to the release of larger satellites instead of small satellite groups. The startup, which appeared in 2022, also develops the “first government mission called Gravitas” as part of an agreement on strategic financing worth $ 60 million, in which the US space forces and “venture investors” have already invested $ 30 million.
The military mission to launch the K2 Space Mega satellites is scheduled for 2026.
