At the conference Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, the representative of Intel, Vice President of Corporate Planning and Relations with investors John Pitzer said that Vendor plans to continue to use the largest TSMC foundry for some of his chips.
Despite the fact that Intel previously sought to completely abandon the TSMC services, the company still admits that it is much more profitable to have part of its plates in production in TSMC. Therefore, Intel comes from the message that TSMC is a “excellent supplier”, despite competition.
For these reasons, Intel will continue to give TSMC part of production for outsources, although it produces its own components according to the 18A process. In addition, instead of using her own assembly, 20A Intel handed over to the work of TSMC so that the contractor produces silicon at its 3-nm node. Intel is also focused on working on its advanced Foveros 3D packaging technology at its packaging enterprises in the United States.
However, such cooperation costs Intel is expensive, since the cost of using TSMC is included in the total cost of creating these processors and therefore reduces the gross profit of the company.
