Google’s photo management service, “Google Photos,” is equipped with an advanced search function that allows you to search for the desired photo from a vast photo library by searching for words such as “food,” “sea,” and “mountain.” An enhanced update of this search function was implemented on Thursday, September 5, 2024, and it became possible to narrow down searches by specifying conditions in detail using natural sentences.

Below is an example of the search function of Google Photos. If you search for “sky”, you can only find photos that contain the sky. Up to this point, it is the same as the conventional search.
Next, I searched for “blue sky”. Then, photos taken at night or in the evening were excluded, and only photos with blue skies were displayed. With the new search function, you can narrow down images using natural sentences like this.
At the time of writing, the natural sentence search function only works in English, and searching for “blue sky” in Japanese did not return any results. Google says it will support languages other than English within the next few weeks.
On Thursday, September 5, 2024, Gemini will be used to launch an image search function called “Ask PhotosAsk Photos has also begun testing a new feature called “What did we eat at Stanley’s hotel?”. Ask Photos lets you type in a question, like “What did we eat at Stanley’s hotel?”, and it will search through its library for the right images to answer your question.
