A recent study conducted by the US company SparkToro revealed “people’s search behavior”, which, according to the source, is becoming increasingly insular and simplistic. About 25% of all search queries on Google are made up of several thousand monosyllabic short phrases.
Moreover, Google searches are becoming increasingly scarce. Thus, the 10,000 “top search queries” account for almost 50% of all search activity of Google users.
To clarify this trend, a longitudinal study was conducted – a long-term study of a group of participants with a re-evaluation of the results. The study looked at 332 million searches over 21 months. The source notes that the results will not be the most pleasant news for many companies around the world: it is becoming increasingly difficult for market players to stand out on the Internet.
One of the study’s findings is that 15% of all Google searches are determined by just 148 keywords. This indicates either a drop in interest in classic web search, or the reluctance of users to resort to Google search results due to information noise. One way or another, apparently, the indicated trend will intensify.
