The details of the first day are summarized in the article below.
I took a trip to ride all JR Shikoku routes by making full use of limited express trains in “Shikoku Green Travel” – Day 1 – GIGAZINE
◆Tosa Kuroshio Railway Local: Sukumo → Nakamura
In the morning, move from the inn to Sukumo Station on the Tosa Kuroshio Railway.
I boarded a local train bound for Kubokawa at 6:32.
I could clearly see “Hotel Avan Sukumo” where I stayed from the train window.
We will cross the Matsuda River, which flows near the Sukumo city area.
◆Limited Express Ashizuri No. 4: Nakamura → Kochi
Arrive at Nakamura Station in the center of Shimanto City in 30 minutes. From here, transfer to Limited Express Ashizuri No. 4.
Shortly after leaving Nakamura, the Tosa Kuroshio Railway exits along Tosa Bay, and tsunami evacuation towers can be seen here and there from the train window.
Driving along Tosa Bay.
We arrived at Kubokawa Station, which we had been unable to reach the previous day due to rain.
Susaki isThe birthplace of Kochi’s famous “Nabeyaki Ramen”It is a local character.Shinjo-kunBut it’s famous.
As the sun rose and harsh sunlight was shining from the right-hand side of the train, Kochi Castle came into view about two hours after changing trains at Nakamura.
◆Dosan Line/Tosa Kuroshio Railway Local: Kochi → Nahari
Ashizuri 4 arrived at Kochi Station at 9:04. Next, take the 9:19 train bound for Nahari.
When you leave Kochi Station, the sightseeing train “Shikoku Tosa: The story of the dawn of the era‘ was parked.
From Kochi Station to Gomen Station, take the Dosan Line, and from Gomen Station, take the Tosa Kuroshio Railway Gomen-Nahari Line. Each station on the Gomen Nahari Line has a character designed by manga artist Takashi Yanase.
When you exit Gomen Station, the Dosan Line curves to the left, and the Gomen/Nahari Line curves to the right at an elevated track.
I also saw a tsunami evacuation tower along the Gomen-Nahari Line, which runs on the east side of Tosa Bay.
The train stopped exactly where the station name sign was clearly visible. There is a “Wajiki Kappa-kun” at Washoku Station.
The piers of the Kochi Eastern Expressway, which is under construction, were lined up on the north side of the tracks.
Near Kyūjō-mae Station is the Aki Municipal Baseball Stadium, which the Hanshin Tigers use for their fall training camp. However, from the train windowAki Dome (multipurpose gymnasium)You can’t see the stadium because it’s blocked by.
Looking back towards Aki City. The Aki Dome that was visible earlier can be seen in the center of the photo.
I crossed the iron bridge over the Nahari River.
Finally, the final station, Nahari Station, came into view.
◆Kochi Eastern Transportation: Nahari Station → Muroto Office
Arrived at Nahari Station at 10:50. The ticket gate and platform are on the third floor of the building.
There is a restaurant called Italian restaurant Tonno on the same floor. Lunch hours start at 11am.
The exterior of Nahari Station looks like this.
Looking at the map covered by the “Shikoku Green Travelogue”, Nahari Station and Awa-Kainan Station, which is located across Cape Muroto, are a dead end. However, if it is not limited to “Shikoku Green Travel”, as shown by the blue dotted line in the image,Asa Kaigan Railway’s “DMV” can run on both tracks and roadsruns south from Awa-Kainan Station to “Umi-no-Eki Toyocho” and “Roadside Station Shishikui Onsen”, allowing you to transfer to Kochi Tobu Kotsu buses. Furthermore, there is a DMV flight that goes to “Umi no Eki Torom” on the west side of Cape Muroto only once a day on Saturdays and Sundays, so this time I decided to take the long-distance DMV that runs once a day. . This section isAsa Line” was also planned.
On the 1st floor of Nahari Station, there is a product store called “Figs”, and in September they were selling figs, which is the name of the store, but they were sold out when they arrived at 9 o’clock.
We took the opportunity to visit Aki, which is said to be a specialty of Aki.Azuki rice crackersI purchased “.
The bus is Kochi Tobu Kotsu.Aki Muroto Global Geopark LineIn addition to the Kitagawa village bus “monet’s garden” There is also a place to go.
As I was waiting, the first bus that arrived was the Kitagawa Village bus bound for Monet’s Garden. It takes 10 minutes by bus to Monet’s Garden and costs 230 yen one way.
When the Kitagawa Village bus left at 11 o’clock, the Kochi Tobu Kotsu bus, which departed at 11:01, arrived immediately. There is a bus stop at “Umi no Eki Torom”, but there is no direct bus from the Nahari area, so we will go to the nearest Muroto office.
The clouds gradually decreased and the weather became clear, and we were able to enjoy Tosa Bay while traveling. This photo was taken in the opposite direction of travel.
I arrived at the Muroto office at 11:54. The fare is 1100 yen. If you would like to take a regular flight that is not the DMV’s “Umi-no-Eki Torom” flight, please do not get off at the Muroto office but instead go to the “Muroto Global Geopark Center”.Muroto Kaura LineYou will need to transfer to the “Umi no Eki Toyocho” bus and then transfer to the DMV at “Umi no Eki Toyocho.”
◆Walk: Muroto Office → Seaside Station Torom
There is a bus from the Muroto office to “Umi no Eki Torom” if you have to wait a while, but it’s only about a 10 minute walk, so I decided to walk. Google Maps does not reflect the detailed alleys, but if you turn right from the Muroto office, you can go straight to National Route 55.
Entrance to “Seaside Station Torom”.
There is an express bus terminal, and local buses and DMVs also arrive and depart here.
Kochi Tobu Kotsu/Muroto Kaoura Line buses bound for Muroto Office and Kaoura Pier are available. For those bound for Koura Quay, instead of heading towards Cape Muroto, go north, cross the base of the cape, and head towards “Umi no Eki Toyocho”.
As you can see, there is only one DMV departing from Umi-no-Eki Toromu at 1:52pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Since we have some time until departure, we decided to check out the food and beverage facilities.MurogenI decided to have lunch there. The recommended dish is the “Muroto Seafood Bowl.”
The rest of the menu looks like this. Of course, I ordered the Muroto Seafood Bowl.
“Spring in Muroto is full of yellowtail,”Muroto Spring Mapwas posted. The “Muroto Spring Declaration” ended on May 10th, and it is still unclear whether similar measures will be implemented in 2025.
It was crowded with touring groups on this day, and the food was served in about 20 minutes after ordering.
A luxurious seafood bowl centered around three pieces of seared bonito.
In addition, the “bonito tataki set meal” comes with 6 pieces of bonito tataki.
Since we had some extra time, we decided to go to the “Toromu Sea Station”.Muroto Dolphin Center“fart. Admission fee is 550 yen for adults (junior high school students and older), 440 yen for children (4 years old to elementary school age), and free for infants (3 years old and under).
There is a circular pool behind the building, and you can watch the dolphin show literally right in front of your eyes.
A dolphin jumping high.
You can also splash as much as you want.
Both children and adults were delighted.
There are sea turtles in the pool next door, and if you buy food you can try feeding them.
There are a variety of activities available, such as swimming with dolphins, playing with dolphins, and feeling like a dolphin trainer.
◆Asa Kaigan Railway: Seaside Station Toromu → Awa Kainan
Just before 2 p.m., the DMV and Kochi Tobu Kotsu buses arrived at the express bus terminal. The bus left immediately to head to the Muroto office, but the DMV waited there for about 30 minutes before turning back.
DMV waiting in the parking lot of the sea station.
Only one round trip on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.Awa Kainan Culture Village” and “Umi no Eki Torom”.
The wheels for running in train mode between Kaoura Station and Awa-Kainan Station are stored at the bottom of the vehicle. You can see the rear wheels just by looking into them.
At 13:52, we will depart for Awa Kainan Culture Village.
The statue of Shintaro Nakaoka stands on Cape Muroto.
Although we cannot see the cape itself, we did see a monument that says “Cape Muroto, a historical site and scenic spot.”
I saw a plane that seemed to be heading to Kochi Ryoma Airport.
If we were traveling by bus, we would most likely have changed routes at Muroto Global Geopark, but this time we passed through without getting off.
Displays 32km to Kaura and 123km to Tokushima.
Muroto AquariumIn front of it was a piece of paint imitating a station name sign. On the left (toward Tokushima) is “Hiwasa Sea Turtle Museum Caretta”the right (toward Kochi) is “Katsurahama Aquarium”.
It takes about an hour to arrive at Toyocho Sea Station from Sea Station Torom. The bus stop leads directly to the beach.
Kaoura Station came into view in the direction of travel. What you can see on the elevated track is the old railroad platform, and now there is a DMV station building below the slope.
entrance to the slope. The DMV has been running on the road like a regular bus, but from here on it is a DMV-only road.
At the top of the slope, change mode to train.
The train stops for about 5 minutes at Shishikui Station, which is an intermediate station on the railway section, so get off from the platform to the station master’s office on the first floor.Iron seal bookSome people had their books recorded.
After all the people on board got off, I looked around the inside of the car and saw this. The seats have seat belts, and the expression “a bus that can also run on railroad tracks” is appropriate.
It cuts through the mountain in a series of tunnels, and in some parts it feels faster than driving on National Route 55, which runs almost parallel to it.
Awa-Kainan Station came into view. It is a transfer station for the JR Mugi Line, and was once connected by rail, but has been completely separated with the introduction of the DMV.
◆Mugi Line Local: Awa Kainan → Tokushima
There is a limited express train on the Mugi Line that connects Mugi, which is three stations away from Awa Kainan, and Tokushima, with one round trip a day. There was only one round trip between Muro and No. 2, departing from Bunmugi and arriving at Tokushima at 8:20, so it could not be included in this itinerary. This time, I boarded a local train bound for Tokushima, leaving Awa Kainan at 4:08 p.m.
The Mugi Line connects Tokushima City and Kaiyo Town, and runs through the eastern part of Tokushima Prefecture, but there is little along the coastline, and there is a lot of mountainous scenery from Awa Kainan to Anan. From Anan, the route runs through flat land where residential buildings, farmland, and commercial facilities intermingle.
After passing Anan, you will cross the Naka River.
◆Limited Express Uzushio No. 26: Tokushima → Takamatsu
The local train arrived at Tokushima Station at 18:12. As the sun sets, I would like to get into the hotel, but due to my next itinerary, I have to travel to Takamatsu.
The Tokushima Line’s local train bound for Anabuki, the Mugi Line’s local train bound for Mugi, and the Kotoku Line’s limited express Uzushio No. 26 bound for Takamatsu were all there.
I was seated at a seat with an electrical outlet, the first since “Iyonada Monogatari.”
Before leaving Tokushima at 18:29, I stopped by a souvenir shop on the 1st basement floor of the station building and bought Handa somen noodles with the “Machi★Asobi Ohenro” design. Our RiseI bought it. I received the Indigo Cheese Langue de Chat as a sample.
By this time, the train windows were almost completely dark except for the city area and the station premises, so I almost gave up on taking pictures, but at Kuribayashi Station I saw a JNR-colored Kiha 40 series, so I managed to take a photo.
We arrived at Takamatsu Station at 7:37pm. It seems like I can travel around Shikoku in two days, but my goal this time is to ride all JR Shikoku lines, so the trip still continues.
