“*Instagram of the Internet of the Future” – Pixelfed – received an iOS and Android application

Pixelfed, a decentralized image sharing platform, is now available on iOS and Android. This open-source *Instagram alternative offers a similar experience, but without the ads and third-party data sharing. Previously only available through the website or third-party apps, Pixelfed launched its app for Android on January 9, and now for iOS.

Daniel Superno, the creator of Pixelfed, announced that in just 24 hours, more than 11,000 new users joined the platform, and the total number of posts published exceeded 78,000. Pixelfed runs on ActivityPub, the same protocol used in other decentralized networks such as Mastodon .

The influx of new users comes at a time when many *Instagram users are looking for alternatives following controversial changes to *Meta’s policies.

*belongs to Meta, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and is banned
