From left: Director Sori, Mr. Yakusho, and Mr. Tsuchiya. When he took the stage, there was a scene where Mr. Yakusho, who went on stage first, extended his hand to Mr. Tsuchiya, who was about to go up the stairs after him.
Mr. Yakusho, who said it had been a while since he had been to Osaka, commented when asked about his impression of Osaka fans, “I feel like the enthusiasm of the applause is different from the moment we enter.” Mr. Tsuchiya also commented, “The pressure of welcoming me…the enthusiasm is amazing.” On the other hand, Director Sori is originally from Osaka. He reminisced about how he used to skip school and go to the Daimai Underground Theater in Dojima to watch triple-feature movies.
This time, Mr. Yakusho plays the role of Takizawa Bakoto, a writer who spent 28 years writing the novel “Nanso Satomi Hakkenden”. When playing the role of Bakin, the make-up and costume designers, as well as the set designers, carefully handled the changes over the past 28 years, so as I played Bakin on set, I felt the age seep into my body, making it easier. He said he received it.
Mr. Tsuchiya had known about “Hakkenden” since he was a child, so he longed to appear in the work itself. Although she did not have a very long time to appear as Fushihime this time, she must have been able to demonstrate her “superpowers” convincingly with the support of many people, including the make-up and art artists. I spoke.
Director Sori commented that he was from the generation that saw the puppet show “Shin Hakkenden,” and that he wanted the “dama” held by the Eight Swordsmen. Although I had a desire to make Nanso Satomi Hakkenden into a film someday, the plan was not coming to fruition until I came across Yamada Fuutarou’s novel Hakkenden, which mixes the stories of Hakkenden and Bakin. I hope I can make it into a film,” he said, pushing forward. He said that he was very excited about what he had accomplished.
Since this was a special premiere screening, a question corner from the audience was set up in the second half.
When asked about a memorable scene, Mr. Yakusho commented that in the story of “Mitsu,” the part that left an impression on him was the way his physically weak son, Sohaku, gradually weakens. Hayato Isomura, who played Sohaku, actually lost weight so severely during filming that it was painful to watch. In addition, as a story of “imaginary”, I mentioned the movement on the roof tiles and the image of Fushihime riding away on Yafusa.
Regarding what was difficult and difficult, Ms. Yakusho mentioned that it takes about three hours to apply makeup, so she had to work on it in the dark, along with Seiyo Uchino, who plays Katsushika Hokusai. Mr. Tsuchiya filmed the scene in which he was lying on the ground in late October, so it was hard for him to get cold, and because the assistant director was in charge of the Yafusa that Mr. Tsuchiya would ride during filming, it was difficult for him to put his emotions into it. He revealed that it was difficult.
The movie “Hakkenden”, which depicts the 28 years of writing “Hakkenden” written by Takizawa Bakin and the epic story of “Hakkenden”, will be released nationwide from October 25, 2024 (Friday).
