A research team led by Benedikt Szot of the Technical University of Munich has developed an “amyloid-beta” biomolecule that specifically targets the amyloid-beta biomolecule, which is said to cause neuronal hyperactivity typical of Alzheimer’s disease in the early stages. They designed a new protein called “Anticalin conjugate (H1GA)” and produced H1GA using genetically modified Escherichia coli bacteria. Dr. Sott reported, “The effect of H1GA is very remarkable in that it completely suppresses neuronal hyperactivity in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease,” and suggests that H1GA can halt the progression of severe neurodegenerative disease at an early stage. He expressed hope that he could do it.

On the other hand, it is still unclear whether H1GA is effective in humans, and says, “Although the H1GA used this time is far from being provided as a therapeutic drug that can be used in humans, the successful results of animal experiments suggest that future research will be carried out. This is very encouraging,” said Szot.
