Scientists have identified new aspects of the progression of Alzheimer’s disease — Ferra.ru

Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia, is characterized by the accumulation of amyloid-beta (Aβ) and tau proteins in the brain, leading to cognitive decline. Positron emission tomography (PET) has previously been used to detect Aβ accumulation.

The study shows that patients with memory loss symptoms and high tau levels also have high Aβ levels, which is associated with more aggressive AD progression. At the same time, patients who are Aβ positive but tau negative may have a milder course of symptoms.
