Telus to bring a 5G private network to Calgary Airport

Telus and the Calgary Airport (YYC) are working to launch Canada’s first airport equipped with a 5G private network, offering an ultra-fast, low-latency experience.

The network will be deployed in phases, with initial operations starting May 1st. This is part of a 10-year, multi-million dollar partnership with YYC, meaning the airport could also receive other enhancements in the next 10 years.

Telus plans to maximize the airport’s existing infrastructure while also introducing new coverage enhancements to the inside and outside of the terminal so people have the best coverage.

When you’re at an airport, you might notice a horrible data signal. This should improve that experience.

According to Megan Gupton, the Chief Information Officer at the YYC Calgary Airport Authority, this should improve the travel experience for passengers. “Fixed connections and Wi-Fi alone won’t be enough. The latest generation of private 5G networks are necessary to unlock greater productivity, resilience, and sustainability.”
