Thanks to the new regulatory framework, which requires the introduction of browser selection screens in all operating systems used in the EU, Firefox increased the number of active users in two large European countries. The main goal of the DMA law is to give European users the opportunity to choose the preferred browser instead of using the default pre -installed.
Researchers of Mozilla Foundation found that such browser selection screens can be an effective tool if they are implemented correctly. On Android, this procedure is easier on iOS to install a browser by default.
Due to the action of DMA, as a result of the introduction of the selection screens in the iOS ecosystem in Germany and France, the number of daily active users Firefox increased by 99% and 111%, respectively.
“This indicates that people prefer to be able to choose in the market, especially in the market of mobile devices,” the researchers say.
